DRAB TO FAB IN 5 ACCESSORIES OR LESS!
How many days have you rolled out of bed, rushing to get the day started, not taking time to make yourself look and feel fabulous? For me it’s way more often than not. Therefore I relish the days when I do have time to get dressed up, I may not look great every day but I’ll be darned if I don’t give it my best shot every chance I get. Whether it’s church on Sunday, a night out with the girls, or my favorite, when I get to travel to new places I take these times to use what I have and get creative. The formula I have found to fashion success is:
basics + accessories = FAB! You can take the most basic piece of clothing, a simple black dress, and turn it into a plethora of fantastic fashion. This blog is meant to inspire you to go to your own closet, find what you have, and use it to make yourself look and feel great. These are the looks I created from my closet, that will take you from day to evening, spring to fall, drab to fab in 5 accessories or less…
We start with this simple black dress… anyone can make this look happen, it’s pretty obvious to add black heels
to a black dress, and while this has it’s place in fashion, let’s face it, it’s not very fun, so let’s spice it up a little!
This look is a perfect day time look for the summer. Starting with the basic black dress I added a light weight,
short sleeve, teal sweater. With that I paired a colorful tie belt and matching necklace for a pop of summer
color. And to finish the look a cute pair of strappy gold sandals, a unique gold bracelet and cool shades.
This look screams fall! With the same black dress I paired a neutral leopard scarf and a colorful jacket. I also
added cute camel boots featuring chunky hardware, and playing off of these accents, gold and black drop
earrings and a bracelet. Perfect for a chilly workday or a night out with the girls.
This look can easily work in any season, for work or for play. I again started with the basic black dress, this
time adding a great mustard sweater, a light weight graphic scarf that works any time of year, a basic ruffled
black flat, and chunky silver ring and earrings. I also added a cute pair of black framed glasses to complete
the look, you can pick these up at any drug store, no prescription required.
Ok, the fourth and final look is all about taking it from day to evening. One very important accessory that I
haven’t featured with the above looks is a large chic bag for carrying all of your daily necessities. Said bag
will be perfect for days when you can’t run home to change before a night on the town. Just toss all of your
needed accessories into your bag and just a few changes before leaving work will perfect your evening look.
Here I have added a great pair of leopard heels, and a stylish belt that repeats the gold buckle on the shoes
to unify the look. Also adding to this unification are the touches of gold in the bracelet and earrings. The
necklace and clutch add just enough color to spice things up a bit. And sorry, I cheated on this one with 6
accessories, so shoot me!
Now be honest, did you really believe you could get all of these looks from this simple black dress? Fashion
may in fact start with the clothes, but it ends with accessories. So, the next time you aren’t feeling all that
fabulous about yourself, go to your closets and your jewelry boxes and see what you can find and I guarantee
you too can go from drab to fab in 5 accessories or less!
